I Listen & Take Action

City Council is ready for an infusion of new representatives who bring different experiences and fresh perspectives to the Council table to improve access to employment, education and affordable housing, support small and large businesses, keep our neighbourhoods safe, maintain fiscal and environmental stewardship, and advocate to end the stigma of mental illness to improve the lives of everyone living within our community.

My Platform

Affordable Housing

Housing is a basic and fundamental right, and access to safe, affordable and adequate housing promotes not only health and well-being, but a successful community. 'The Strong Communities through Affordable Housing Act' has mandated municipalities across Ontario, including Barrie, to amend their planning documents to facilitate the creation of second suites.  The City of Barrie is on its way to achieving its goal of 840 affordable homes by 2024, but more needs to be done to create a variety of housing to meet the demand of our growing population and mitigate homelessness.

Aggressive Driving

Aggressive driving has escalated in Ward 3 and throughout Barrie.   Speeding, tailgating, making excessive lane changes, intentionally preventing another driver from passing and cutting off others on the road needs to be mitigated throughout our community with an effective effort to change driver behaviour.

Efficient Public Transportation

Residents have expressed concern of inadequate public transport throughout Barrie.  Express shuttle services added to conventional bus routes would enhance the network and ease ridership stress; as well as ew pedestrian-friendly developments that contain services and retail.

Community Mental Health

The Mental Health Commission of Canada through their "Changing Directions, Changing Lives: the Mental Health Strategy for Canada'" calls on all levels of government (including Municipal) to play a leadership role in responding to mental health problem and illnesses.

Specifically, WE CAN:

- Equip first responders and front line service providers with the tools and training to respond appropriately to people living with mental illness or

at risk of suicide.

- Model a mentally healthy workplace.

- Support activities to reduce the stigma that surrounds mental health problems and illnesses.

- Assess and adapt municipal services, plans and policies to positively impact mental health.

- Consider a Housing First approach to help end chronic homelessness for people living with mental health problems.

Municipal Candidate Event - Municipal Sustainability

Sustainability is an often used term most closely linked with environmentalism. Through this event, we hope to bring down the jargon and understand sustainability from two different lenses - climate and growth. Our guest speakers will help municipal candidates understand how there is a large municipal role and responsibility in building sustainable communities - financially, socially and environmentally.

Dr. Diane Saxe (Environmental Commissioner of Ontario) and Marcy Burchfield (Neptis Foundation) will be speaking about two important factors in our communities' financial, social and environmental health.

Barrie Community Tree Planting

Join Living Green Barrie and their partners the Lake Simcoe Region Conservation Authority - LSRCA the The City of Barrie for a FREE tree planting event.

Bring the whole family out to help us plant native trees and shrubs and increase Barrie’s urban forest canopy. Students can get their volunteer hours. Everyone will have fun and feel good about making the world a cleaner and greener place.

Trees are vital to our very existence. They make oxygen, clean the air and help fight against climate change. Roots soak up pollutants making the waters that flow into Lake Simcoe cleaner. They provide habitat for birds and wildlife and make the air feel cooler.

Plain and simple, more trees mean a better Barrie.
